Two Proexport Members Honored at the 2023 Diario del Campo Awards
Fruca received the award in the Export category, and Pozo Sur in the Agriculture category
On March 22, 2023, we held the fifth edition of the Diario del Campo Awards, named after the television program of the same name, which recognize the outstanding work of individuals, companies, and institutions dedicated to the agricultural sector in the Region of Murcia.
Among this year’s winners are two Proexport member companies: Fruca, in the Export category and Pozo Sur in the Agriculture category.
In the case of Fruca, its founder, José Cánovas, accepted the award from Mariano Zapata, president of Proexport.
Among the reasons for this distinction, it is worth noting that since its founding in 1986 by the Cánovas family—originally focused on the marketing of citrus fruits—Fruca Marketing has become a leading global company specializing in the marketing and distribution of fresh vegetables and citrus fruits, with a strong presence and leadership position in European markets where its products have been consumed for over 36 years. Therefore, its export-oriented nature and status as a family-owned business are its hallmarks.
For her part, Lola López, Pozo Sur’s marketing manager, took the stage to accept the award from Olga García, Caixabank’s regional director for the Region of Murcia.
In the case of Pozo Sur, which was founded in the summer of 1989, it was noted that it is a family-owned business with more than 70 years of experience in agriculture, where new generations continue their grandparents’ legacy with hard work, dedication, and passion.
Currently, depending on the time of year, it produces, grows, and markets various products, such as lettuce, eggplant, squash, cucumbers, Chinese specialties like pak choi, and—in the summer—watermelon, its star product.
The other 2023 award winners were: Francisco González Marín in Livestock; the Mazarrón Fishermen’s Guild in Fishing; Agrocomponentes in Innovation; Doscadesa in Research; Energía Eneragua in Water; Central Quesera Montesinos in Industry; Sara Rubira, president of the “El Porvenir” Irrigation Community in Abanilla, in the Women’s category; the Murcia Designation of Origin in Food; Agrosolmen in Sustainability; Econex in CSR; and José Antonio Sánchez Andúgar of Porcisan, posthumously, in recognition of his Professional Career.
The program *Diario del Campo* is one of the longest-running shows on La7 (the regional television network of the Region of Murcia). Every Monday, through reports and interviews, it covers current events in agriculture, livestock, and fishing in the region.
It has received numerous awards for its work in highlighting the primary sector and is, without a doubt, an example of how regional television demonstrates its support for a sector that is strategic to the regional economy, at a critical time when these entities are showcasing the strength and resilience of the productive fabric.
The event, attended by officials including Antonio Luengo, Regional Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries, and Valle Miguélez, Regional Minister of Business, will be broadcast on the regional channel next Monday starting at 10:00 p.m. on the program “Diario del Campo.”
